I got a notification ping from deviantArt and immediately had a wave of Obi-Wan style "now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time" wash over me. The specific flavor of nostalgia I get from revisiting old social media is a weird, and intoxicating thing. It's unambiguously cringe, in the loudest most awkward ways possible, but at the same time charming and kind of adorable in seeing the person I once was and definitely am no longer. It was very funny reading the most recent journal entry dated c.a. 2015 wherein I was shocked for having over a year between it and the next most recent entry. I suppose a social media account has a slow, drawn out death. But even funnier than the shock is the shame in it. As if I were letting someone down -- as if I ever had a meaningful following to let down in the first place. ...Wow, I haven't written an update here in a year. It's strange, it really doesn't feel like that much has happened since the last post, yet so much time has slipped by. In the spirit of the previous posts, I suppose I should first share what has happened in my life in the last 383 days since posting previously. The first thing, of course, was that I landed a job. Missed a few updates again, haha. Fall Semester digest: NLP was just as interesting as I'd hoped, but also just as uninspiring as I'd feared. The summation of the class I took was "look at all these very interesting problems that don't have solutions simple enough to discuss in depth during an undergraduate class!" Boo. Modern Algebra was a cool class, but we got a really shitty replacement teacher halfway through that made the class substantially harder than it needed to be. Ugh.
